Gauteng hands over 550 licences to compliant transport operators
The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport has handed over more than 550 operating licences to compliant minibus taxi and scholar transport operators in one week.
A total of 572 were issued during handover ceremonies held in Johannesburg and Tshwane on Wednesday and Friday.
The latest handovers bring the number of valid operating licences issued by the department since November last year to more than 3,000.
The Department’s Spokesperson, Lesiba Mpya, says the progress is part of efforts to clear outstanding applications and ensure compliant public transport operators can operate legally and safely.
“Public transport operators are required to be in possession of a valid operating licence to transport passengers for a fee. Operators who were unable to collect their licences during the handover ceremonies are encouraged to visit the TOLAB office where they submitted their applications to verify the status of their applications and make arrangements for collection. Operators are advised to bring proof of application.”
