Marry Me residents in PTA react to Lesufi’s renewed promises

SABC News South Africa ·

Residents of the Marry Me informal settlement in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria, have expressed mixed reactions to Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi’s promise to bring changes to the area by February next year.

Lesufi engaged with residents during an imbizo on Wednesday evening.

The community members raised concerns about poor service delivery, including a lack of access to water, electricity, adequate housing and street lights.

The incident raised concerns about safety in the area, with residents continuing to call for urgent interventions to address crime and improve living conditions.

Residents have described this imbizo as a move to campaign for votes ahead of the November elections.

Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi, has, however, pledged to bring changes to the settlement by February next year. We pushed for the basic professional services to be done, and it’s the city that says it will start in February next year”, he says.

“So I have no doubt, but the reality is that on the 4th of November, a new political party can take over Tshwane and abandon those things.

So we will be accused that we didn’t commit to the date when a political party has taken over”, he added. – Report by Puseletso Mokoena
