Accused in murder of ANCYL members in Katlehong abandons bail bid
The man accused of killing four African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) members in Katlehong on the Gauteng East Rand last week, has provisionally abandoned his bail application.
John Sibeko has appeared at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court and his matter has been postponed to the 19th of November.
Sibeko faces murder, attempted murder and firearm-related charges.
The four victims were returning from a memorial service when they were shot.
Three others remain in hospital.
Ekurhuleni ANCYL chairperson Ayanda Patose has welcomed Thursday’s court outcome.
“We can say we are happy that his defence, the defence of the accused, is really seeing that this is where this case is very watertight.
Hence, they decided to abandon the bail application, because they do not have the grounds to prove, indeed, that this was a mistake and not premed itated.” “So, our call, as the ANC and the Youth League in this court, was clear today to say no bail must be granted for such a heartless and a cruel murderer, who killed four members of the ANC Youth League who were young and inno cent.” RELATED VIDEO |Bail hearing set for John Sibeko in Katlehong murder case Sibeko to appear in court – Reporting by Zine Buthelezi
