AKA murder trial hears accused was identified in airport CCTV footage

A police officer who specialises in collecting CCTV evidence has told the Durban High Court that he identified one of the accused in the AKA murder trial in footage from King Shaka International Airport in 2023.

Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane were later shot dead outside a Durban restaurant.

Constable Rajen Sanders told the court that he recognised accused Muziwethemba Gwabeni from previous encounters in police cells, other CCTV footage and media reports.

Sanders said he reviewed the footage after investigating officer Warrant Officer Pillay pointed out a person he believed was one of the accused.

“Whilst the footage was playing, Warrant Officer Pillay, the investigating officer, had sighting of one of the accused in the footage.

I then had a closer look at the footage and I agreed with him from knowing that I’ve seen him before on other footages.

We then came to the conclusion that it was the same person.” VIDEO | Seven accused have pleaded not guilty to all charges in AKA & Tibz murder trial
