Giyani residents slam Limpopo ANC for service delivery failures
Rural communities in the Greater Giyani Municipality (GGM) have lambasted the African National Congress (ANC) in Limpopo for service delivery failures, especially the delay in addressing the water crisis in the province.
They have been facing prolonged water outages for over a decade and are demanding government intervention.
Residents say they grapple with inadequate water supplies mainly due to dilapidated infrastructure.
During SABC Elections 360 Debate on Sunday night, ANC Deputy Provincial Secretary Basikopo Makamu said the people of Giyani should continue to trust them with their vote.
Makamu says, “Let me start by responding to the issue of basic services which includes sewer, water, electricity, 91 villages in Giyani are electrified…that’s what this government has done to the community of Giyani. ” He adds, “We can also indicate within this democratic era, there are a number of issues that have been done and we are the first ones to accept that there are other areas which we don’t necessarily do well.” African People’s Convention’s (APC) Deputy President Ernest Hlathi has pledged that his party will address the water issues in Giyani, if entrusted with votes.
Hlathi says, “The APC doesn’t need 30 years to bring water to the people of Giyani, we only need five years to make sure that water runs through each household in Giyani.
Here you know that more than R 5 billion has been spend to bring water to the people of Giyani but water is not there.” He says, “There’s a lot of corrupt officials and people who run this municipality.
So through our ethical leadership that are going to bring to this municipality, we will make sure the people of Giyani must get water because water is life.
Any party that doesn’t give water to its people doesn’t deserve the vote from people of Giyani.” VIDEO | Town hall debate in Giyani:
