The 32-year-old has been at the Giants for two years, and is actually enjoying one of the better seasons of his career having kicked 42 goals.
But he revealed his father has been unwell this year, and he also wants to be closer to his young daughters.
“I’ll probably most likely go back to Melbourne, just for family reasons,” he said on Thursday.
“My dad’s been sick throughout this whole year and being away from my two girls back in Melbourne’s been challenging. So most likely, it’s probably my last game for the Giants.
“I’m just excited for this last game and ... most likely it’ll be my last game. But it’s one that I’m very grateful for, to be able to play. Absolutely loved my time.
“Definitely feel like I’ve got quite a few more years left. But I’ll just get through this weekend, reassess, spend some time with the family, go back home and work it out from there.”
Stringer stressed there hasn’t been an official decision yet, and is just looking forward to Saturday night’s clash against Adelaide.
“I’m just looking forward to finishing it off here, enjoying more time with my teammates who I absolutely love, and go from there.”
Stringer is preparing for his 250th AFL match after first beginning his career at the Western Bulldogs.
He was a member of the 2016 premiership side before departing the club at the end of 2017 to join Essendon.
