What Alan Jones accuser told high-profile ex-athlete

A prominent former athlete who has accused Alan Jones of kissing him told a fellow high-profile sportsman that “something similar” had happened to him after reading allegations about the broadcaster in the media, a court has heard.

Mr Jones is standing trial in the Downing Centre Local Court in Sydney having denied groping and kissing six male alleged victims.

He has pleaded not guilty to 20 counts of indecent assault and two counts of sexual touching and through his legal team has denied that any of the alleged incidents occurred.

The prominent former athlete, who can only be referred to as “Complainant M”, has alleged Mr Jones kissed him on the corner of his mouth at a function in Sydney over a decade ago, and kissed him and pressed his genitalia against his leg at the ex-radio king’s Circular Quay apartment.

M is the third complainant to give evidence against Mr Jones during the trial, which has now been running for seven weeks.

M’s evidence came to an end on Friday morning after more than three days in the witness box.

Allegations against Mr Jones were first aired publicly in December 2023 in a story written by Sydney Morning Herald journalist Kate McClymont.

During his evidence to the court, M said after reading the story, he contacted three people and told them that something similar had happened to him.

Evidence of what M said to the other athlete was under a non-publication order until it was lifted by Judge Glenn Walsh on Friday.

“I said to (the ex-athlete) the same thing that I said to (another person) in relation to the defendant (Mr Jones) and that a similar thing had happened to me as was reported in the newspaper,” M told the court.
