Lexus GX, LX: Fix announced for potential mechanical failures, some engines to be replaced

Lexus Australia says it has found a remedy for a mechanical issue with the twin-turbocharged 3.4-litre petrol V6 in its GX and LX off-road SUVs, which may lead to some owners getting new engines.

On November 7, 2025, Lexus Australia announced a safety recall of 789 vehicles across the GX550 and LX600 nameplates due to the potential presence of machining debris within their engines.

Now, 10 months later, the luxury brand says it has "confirmed a remedy process for the involved vehicles".

"Lexus Dealers will inspect the engine to assess whether any repair is required," the company says in its updated recall notice.

"Engine replacement will only be performed if necessary. The remedy will be free of charge to vehicle owners."

Lexus says the inspection will take approximately two hours per vehicle, though it advises that owners may need to make their vehicles available for "a longer period of time" should an engine replacement be needed, with courtesy vehicles to be made available.

"The subject vehicles are equipped with a specific V35A engine that contains crankshaft main bearings, which allow the crankshaft to rotate within the engine assembly while running," reads the description of the mechanical issue.

"During a specific production period, there is a possibility that engine machining debris of a particular size and amount may not have been cleared from the engine during manufacturing and subsequently contaminated the engine assembly during the production process.

"For these engines in the subject vehicles, the pressure on the main bearings due to the engine configuration is such that, if the aforementioned machining debris adheres to the bearings and operation of the engine continues at higher loads over time, failure of the bearings may occur.

"This can lead to potential engine knocking, engine rough running, engine not starting and/or an engine stall. In the subject vehicles, an engine stall while driving leads to a loss of motive power. A vehicle loss of motive power while driving at higher speeds can increase the risk of a collision."

The recall affects 789 vehicles, and includes LX600s produced between November 16, 2022 and April 1, 2024, plus GX550s produced between March 4, 2024 and April 3, 2024. The notice is attached here .

If you have any further questions about the recall, you can contact your preferred Lexus dealership or the Lexus Customer Assistance Centre on 1800 023 009, weekdays between 8:00am and 6:00pm AEST.

Lexus Australia has previously announced a remedy for a prior LX600 recall.
