Coles’ major Flybuys shake-up ahead of Christmas
In the lead-up to Christmas, Coles shoppers can save up to $400 off their festive shopping in a major change to the supermarket’s Flybuys program.
The supermarket giant’s “Collect for Christmas” option will allow members to build points towards their end-of-year celebrations.
From December 11 to Christmas Eve, members can then use saved points for money off their Christmas shopping, with up to $400 worth of Flybuys points able to be redeemed in a single transaction.
There is a catch though, with members having to opt in by September 27, but they can opt out at any time.
By opting in, members will get the first automatic offer of 10x points on their next shop at Coles and Liquorland.
Major rival Woolworths has already begun a similar scheme with members able to change their preference in the Everyday Rewards app or website at any time to “Bank for Christmas”.
Instead of automatically receiving $10 off at the checkout every time they hit 2000 points, the points accumulate and can be used during the holiday period.
Coles chief customer experience officer Michael Courtney said “Collect for Christmas” helped customers save their points and enjoy them over the festive season.
“Christmas can be one of the most expensive times of year for households, so we want to give Flybuys members a simple way to save ahead and take money off their festive shop,” he said.
“Collect for Christmas lets members put their points aside over the next few months to help cover the cost of Christmas.”
Coles said 825,100 Flybuys members opted in to Collect for Christmas last year, a 13.5 per cent increase year on year.
