Meyiwa murder trial postponed to 31 August
The Senzo Meyiwa murder trial has been postponed to the 31st of August after Advocate Zithulele Nxumalo asked the court for permission to call two police officers as witnesses during his cross-examination of accused number three Mthobisi Mncube.
Nxumalo asked the state to provide the court with a hat that was allegedly found at the crime scene.
The state opposed the application requesting for postponement to allow both sides to make their submissions.
Five men are on trial for the murder of Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa in October 2014.
Nxumalo told the court that he did not want his application to delay the trial but it is crucial for his cross examination.
“Mr.
Nxumalo what do you want to do?” Judge Ratha asks.
“My lord, I suggest that my colleague is correct, but for the progress of this case, I suggest that we particularly for purposes of that application that we postpone it until the 31st of August 2026 when the witnesses are here because obviously it is opposed, it is opposed by the state and I should not be heard as a person who wants to hold the whole case at ransom.” says Nxumalo.
