SABC News South Africa ·
Higher police visibility in W Cape for festive season: Masemola

National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola says there will be increased police visibility in the Western Cape and recovery of firearms will be prioritised to ensure the safety of citizens and visitors.

He was speaking during the official launch of the province’s Safer Festive Season Operations in Nyanga.

The plan aims to intensify police operations and law enforcement partners with the aim to prevent crime, strengthen police visibility and ensure the safety of residents and visitors throughout the festive season.

Masemola says they will also focus on aggravated robbery, taxi violence, extortion and gender-based violence, among others.

“As you know it’s that time of the year where people are going to be on holiday.

Some people will be leaving; some will be coming to this province.

So, we are focusing on making sure that armed robberies should not happen all type of aggravated robberies, violence especially GBV.

That’s why I said that we will be looking for suspects that are wanted on GBV that have not yet been arrested but cases are open.

So, we will be prioritising those people.”
