PAC urges voters to take the future into their own hands
The Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) has urged eligible voters to take the future into their hands on the 4 th of November.
Party leader Mzwanele Nyhontso said this while campaigning in Sharpeville today just three weeks before the local government elections.
As part of its election campaign, party supporters retraced the path of about 5 000 Sharpeville residents walked on the 21st of March 1960, led by Robert Sobukwe, campaigning against apartheid pass laws.
Apartheid police responded by killing at least 90 people and injuring over 250 more.
The Sharpeville Massacre, which elicited international outrage, was a turning point in the fight against apartheid.
Nyhontso says that residents can also now change the quality of their lives.
“Actually, here there is no municipality – it has collapsed long time ago here, there are no leaders.
Here there is no governance, there is lawlessness, there is corruption…that is why people of Sharpeville must just go out there and replace them and give the PAC a chance to bring service delivery to them.” Illegal immigration Meanwhile, the PAC says it sympathises with the frustrations expressed by South Africans with regards to illegal migration.
Nyhontso says the recent protests in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng could have been avoided if the South African government took care of its people and delivered jobs and services.
This follows violent protests this week by anti-illegal immigrant groups over a Constitutional Court ruling delivered in July, which directs that asylum seekers must not be prevented by administrative hurdles from having the merits of their applications heard.
“At the end of it and the gist of all these problems is the lack of the state to create jobs, it’s the lack of the state to create employment…it’s the lack of the economy not growing otherwise if jobs were there, if employment was there, we would not be having any of these issues.”
