Israelis mark three years since Hamas attack
Israelis are marking three years since Hamas attacked Israel on 7 October 2023, triggering a military assault that destroyed much of Gaza.
The attacks, during which militants killed 1 200 people and took 251 hostages, marked the deadliest day in Israel’s history.
According to Gaza’s health authorities, Israel’s subsequent bombardment and ground operations have killed more than 74 000 people.
Israelis are expected to hold a vigil at the site of the Nova music festival near the Gaza border, where hundreds of young people were killed by militants during the attack.
It comes just 20 days ahead of Israel’s first election since the attack, a vote that is viewed as a referendum on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s long tenure in power.
Benjamin Netanyahu had been unable to convert military might into political gain more than six weeks into the Iran war, which was meant to deliver a defining victory over Tehran, as surveys showed most Israelis viewed the conflict as a failure https://t.co/83nfFH70HN https://t.co/8iFG4rPm6F — Reuters (@Reuters) April 15, 2026 RELATED VIDEO | US-Israel War on Iran | Israeli casualties from Iranian missile strike
