Nearly seven years after the rape and murder of University of Cape Town (UCT) student Uyinene Mrwetyana , a walk of remembrance is taking place on Saturday morning, along the route she once used in pursuit of education.
In August 2019, Uyinene was raped and murdered at the Clareinch Post Office in Claremont.

The Uyinene Mrwetyana Foundation, in partnership with UCT, is retracing her footsteps from Roscommon House, where she lived when she was a first-year student.
Co-founder of the Foundation and Uyinene’s mother, Nomangwane Mrwetyana, says they continue with these walks to raise awareness about gender-based violence and femicide.
“We also want to psycho-educate each other and to remind each other that this is still a challenge for the country.
