Kenwood launches $199 mini indoor pizza oven shoppers can’t get enough of

With the arrival of spring in Australia comes the desire to be outside more.

Think long afternoons by the pool, al fresco cooking and dining under the stars.

But with the weather still a little changeable and the fact that it is still getting dark by 6pm, sometimes you want a bit of outdoors mixed with the comfort of your kitchen.

Enter Kenwood. The famous British kitchen appliance manufacturer has this week unveiled My Pizzeria , a compact indoor pizza oven that cooks stone-baked pizza in just three minutes, for just $199.

It reaches 400 degrees Celsius, bringing the high heat of a specialist pizza oven indoors at a much more accessible price point.

My Pizzeria uses dual-sided heating elements to crisp the base and cook the toppings at the same time, with a removable 30cm ceramic pizza stone and ClearView window so you can keep an eye on your pizza without opening the oven and losing heat.

At just 18.5cm high and weighing 4.7kg, it’s also compact enough to move and store away between uses , making it particularly handy for apartment dwellers and renters without the outdoor space for a traditional pizza oven.

Beyond pizza, it can also be used for flatbreads, quesadillas and s’mores, and works with homemade, chilled or frozen pizza.

The launch comes as new national research commissioned by Kenwood reveals almost one in three Australian households (32 per cent) are ordering takeaway or delivery less often than they were 12 months ago, while another 11 per cent do not order it at all.

Among those asked about their last pizza order, 30 per cent spent $50 or more, only to risk it arriving cold, soggy or later than expected.

It is not that Australians have lost their appetite for pizza ; Australia ranks fourth globally for pizza consumption, behind only Norway, the United States and Canada.

The pizza is still getting the green light; it is the price, wait and delivery roulette that are becoming harder to swallow.

It preheats in around 10 minutes before cooking a pizza in just three, meaning Australians could be slicing into a hot, crispy pizza before a delivery app has even found its driver, without stepping outside or checking the forecast.

It also directly addresses the biggest challenge Australians face when attempting a fakeaway at home, with almost one in four (24 per cent) saying time is the main barrier to making great-quality pizza themselves.
